Today's RGJ has a great story about income generated by Washoe County casinos in 2006. From the piece:
Casino revenue for the county's casinos hit $1.067 billion for the calendar year, according to the board, up 1.8 percent from 2005. That's still below the record in 2001 of $1.076 billion and second-highest $1.074 billion set in 1999, senior research analyst Frank Streshley said.
Hey, I thought analyst Richard Wells said gaming revenues would never again reach "pre-1995 levels" just a little over a month ago. If the record revenue of 1.076 billion occurred in 2001 then why would we even be worried about pre-1995 levels?
Guess there's some room for growth after all.
Still, Randazzo reports in the piece that table gaming revenue was actually down, but slot play was up. Locals tend to play more slots. The increase in slot revenue more than made up for the decrease in table revenue.
If the trend continues of overall revenue growth increasing while table game revenue decreases, I could be less bullish on reversing the 200-room minimum for unlimited gaming but I still think there's room for growth in the small card room casino sector of the market.
