Reno's Great New Website
Just poking around on the internet, and discovered The City of Reno's great new website. Reno has always been pretty innovative in the website department and their latest incarnation is very nice.
It also looks as though they may finally have solved the problem of having their Reno 13 cable channel programming & other valuable video content available for on-demand streaming. I'd prefer to see them use a video-sharing site, but their Flash player does a pretty good job (a far sight better than the last attempt they made)
In particular I'm impressed with the direction Around the Arch is taking. Check it out.
The new site is good...however as a webmaster I have one main criticism with it.
First, they completely switched platforms, from Linux/Unix PHP driven to Windows Server 2003-driven....which is ine, but instead of leaving the old pages up for a while they completely obliterated them, so all 30+ bookmarks I had in the City of Reno's site no longer worked, with no redirects on the old pages, just a 'page cannot be displayed'...that's horrible usability.
Other than that, the new site is nice, the new calendar is great.

I agree they should have done something about redirecting popular links. The site is better organized now, but the old links should have worked for a while.

The code sucks, so many errors and validation shortcomings. Don't they even check the quality once against W3C's HTML & CSS validation services? Forcing Arial & Verdanna as font choices... no designers need apply here. He haven't they heard of Tidy?
See the CSS horror here:

Gifs as spacers... err try using CSS. A list apart anyone?
For the html slop:

The previous one was horrid but this no improvement
